This section explains the functionality of the NavKid Nautical Map app.
V8.01
First 2026 update, expected in spring. This is a massive update based on valuable user feedback.
- Android16-proof techology.
- GPS cursor can be put off-center (also in automatic mode).
- The map can be downloaded per region (smaller and faster).
- The map has been extended with the US East Coast and Gulf, including the major inland rivers.
- Time zones are supported and are applied automatically.
- The times can be used in am/pm notation.
- Quick buttons were added to simplify frequently used features: hold a menu icon you use often and if will be added to the navigation screen.
- The trip recorder now automatically records your trip for later referral or sharing as GPX file.
- The map now contains picnic places, dog walking tracks and public toilets, among other new categories. These will be added continuously.
- The main menu has been cleaned up so the least used items are deeper.
- The route planner speed has been improved.
- We created new icons for better clarity.
- Startup behaviour has been improved and accelerated.
We fixed a bunch of issues and reduced battery usage.
